A fight at a rooming house led to a man’s death Saturday night in New Bedford, officials said.
Arirto Santiago, 38, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Police were called to the rooming house at about 11:32 p.m. on Saturday at 162 Sawyer Street for a reported altercation between neighbors.
Curtis Pina, 56, was found on the third-floor landing with heavy bleeding from a forehead injury, officials said.
He was brought to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later, officials said.
An investigation into the incident led to Santiago’s arrest.
New Bedford District Court records show that Santiago faces a second charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
A plea of not guilty was entered on Santiago’s behalf and a judge ordered him held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Dec. 19.
