July 1st Google Doodle promotes AI Mode

Google’s AI Mode push continues today with a Doodle that broadly promotes how you can “search like never before.”

The Chrome New Tab page on Android, iOS, and desktop shows the new gradient ‘G’ logo with red, yellow, green, and blue dots. Against a dark background, the still artwork looks like it has something to do with outer space, and that is what originally got me to click.

In the US, google.com for both signed in and logged out users has a bouncy animation that involves the letters of the wordmark combining to form the ‘G’ icon. This also appears in the Google app and at the top of the Discover feed on mobile. That artwork somewhat reflects how AI Mode brings together information and summarizes it.

Tapping takes you to an “AI Mode” Search results page, like any other Doodle. An AI Overview amusingly provides an explanation, while there’s a gradient in the top-left corner.

Back on the homepage, there’s also a “Try AI Mode and search like never before” tagline underneath the Search bar. This is the line/space that Google usually uses to promote products, like new Pixel phones, apps, and services. Clicking here takes you to google.com/aimode.

AI Mode is fully available in the US following the I/O 2025 announcement, while India is the first international expansion in testing. Besides this Google Doodle, I’ve recently seen quite a few ads, like on Reddit, for AI Mode.

Looking forward, Google is testing Search Live to let you talk to AI Mode, with the camera mode coming later. Deep Search, personal context that can look at Gmail, and agentic capabilities that can find and buy tickets are also coming
