Chris Wagner is returning to his home state of Massachusetts.
The Walpole native signed a two-year deal with the Springfield Thunderbirds on Tuesday, New England Hockey Journal’s Mark Divver reported.
Wagner, who spent five seasons with the Boston Bruins, played the last two years with the Colorado Avalanche.
The forward ruptured his Achilles in September 2023 and spent a majority of the 2024-25 season in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles. Wagner scored 19 goals and added 12 assists.
The 33-year-old spent five seasons with the Bruins, but struggled to carve out a full-time role for himself during his final two years in Boston.
Wagner played one game in the 2021-22 and the 2022-23 seasons and spent a majority of those two years in Providence. Some of that was due to his contract and $1.35 million cap hit, while some of it was due to free agent signings pushing him out of the lineup.
