Cracker Barrel closes 14 company-owned restaurants amid branding controversy

Cracker Barrel has made its way into the forefront of many headlines lately — and not for its all-day breakfast or complimentary biscuits.

From changing its iconic logo and changing it back, to launching moderation renovations and going back on that plan too, the classic homestyle-food chain is yet again making waves for a change in how it operates.

Cracker Barrel announced it will close 14 company-owned restaurants within the coming year amid its recent rebranding controversy.

However, the restaurants slated for closure are not signature Cracker Barrel locations but instead the company-owned chain Maple Street Biscuit Company.

Cracker Barrel acquired Maple Street Biscuit Company in 2019 for $36 million, USA Today reports.

Cracker Barrel told USA Today they would close more than a dozen Maple Street Biscuit Company locations because they “simply didn’t meet our financial expectations.”

Approximately 50 locations will still be in operation after the 14 closures.

“We appreciate the continued patronage of the many guests who have dined with Maple Street at these 14 locations over recent years,” Cracker Barrel wrote in a statement to USA Today.

They thanked Maple Street Biscuits’ team members “for their passionate dedication to Maple Street.”

The locations slated for closure have not been announced.

According to The Street, when Cracker Barrel acquired Maple Street in 2019, the chain operated 28 company-owned and five francaised locations across seven states.

As of August 2025, the company operated 68 locations.
