Squeeze announces new album after death of former drummer Gilson Lavis

English rock band Squeeze has announced a new album just a few days after a former member died.

The forthcoming album, entitled “Trixies,” will be released in March 2026, Squeeze said in an Instagram post on Nov. 13 with the caption, “Experience the world and people inside Trixies: pre-order your copy on vinyl, CD and pre-save to stream now.”

Dubbed a concept album, “Trixies” will feature songs that Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford wrote when they were teenagers in 1974, nearly five years before Squeeze’s self-titled debut was released.

“The songs that we wrote then astound me. I’m proud of them now, and I’m particularly proud that it was young us that did that,” Tilbrook said, according to Stereogum. “These are very much the same songs that we wrote then. The only difference is that now I can teach the songs to the rest of the band. Back then, I didn’t even know what the names of the chords were!”

“Trixies” will also be Squeeze’s first album in nearly a decade. The band’s last full-length project “The Knowledge” was released in October 2017.

The full track list for “Trixies,” per Stereogum, is below:

  1. “What More Can I Say”
  2. “You Get The Feeling”
  3. “The Place We Call Mars”
  4. “Hell On Earth”
  5. “The Dancer”
  6. “Good Riddance”
  7. “Don’t Go Out In the Dark”
  8. “Why Don’t You”
  9. “Anything But Me”
  10. “It’s Over”
  11. “The Jaguars”
  12. “Trixies Part One”
  13. “Trixies Part Two”

Squeeze’s biggest U.K. hits include “Cool for Cats,” ”Up the Junction” and ”Labelled with Love.” The band enjoyed success in the U.S. with “Tempted,” ”Black Coffee in Bed” and ”Hourglass.”

Tilbrook and Difford, who both play guitar and provide vocals, co-founded the New Wave/rock/power-pop band in 1974. The lineup has changed many times over the years, with notable members like keyboardist Jools Holland, bassist Harri Kakoulli, drummer Paul Gunn and current percussionist Steve Smith (of Dirty Vegas “Days Go By” fame).

Former Squeeze drummer Gilson Lavis, who played with the band during the height of its fame, died at the age of 74 earlier this month. The drummer sharpened his skills by touring with the likes of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Dolly Parton before joining Squeeze in 1976, Ultimate Classic Rock reported. Lavis recorded nine studio albums with the group and performed on multiple hits.
