Brentford 4 – 2 Brighton
Brentford recorded their first home Premier League win since December with a 4-2 win over Brighton, who had Joao Pedro sent off and also had Jan Paul van Hecke stretchered off with a head injury.
Bryan Mbeumo was the man at the heart of the victory for the Bees, scoring two and setting up Yoane Wissa for another.
It was a sparkling performance from the winger, who now has 18 Premier League goals this season.
Danny Welbeck headed Brighton level at the end of the first half but Brentford looked to be cruising to victory at 3-1 up when Joao Pedro was shown a straight red card for violent conduct after an altercation with Nathan Collins.
As the ball hung in the air from Bart Verbruggen’s punt, Pedro tussled with Collins and, in a fit of petulance, flung an arm into the face of the Brentford defender. VAR judged violent conduct on the part of Pedro, who was dismissed to leave Brighton to endure half an hour a player short.
But Brighton made it a tricky final quarter when Kaoru Mitoma got the game back to 3-2.
However, the home side wrapped up the points in stoppage time when Christian Norgaard found the net.
The game ended on a sour note when Brighton defender Van Hecke had to receive eight minutes of medical treatment and was stretchered off requiring oxygen after a clash of heads. Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was unable to provide an update on the player in his post-match press conference.
Brighton are now five without a win in the Premier League. During the second half the away fans chanted ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ towards Hurzeler following a substitution to bring off Danny Welbeck while down to 10.
When asked what he thought about the chants, Hurzeler replied: “That’s fine. They have their opinion. The team played well after that.”

Ben Whittaker has been ‘humbled’ by dramatic draw with Liam Cameron, says Sky Sports expert Johnny Nelson | Boxing News
Ben Whittaker has been “humbled” by Liam Cameron but can rediscover his “amazing talent” under new trainer Andy Lee in the rematch, says Johnny Nelson.
Whittaker was led away in a wheelchair after he and Cameron dramatically toppled out of the ring in their first bout in October, which ended in a split decision draw, and their rivalry will be settled in a second fight on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.
Reflecting on Whittaker’s performance in Saudi Arabia, Sky Sports expert Nelson believes the Olympic silver medallist “neglected what he does so well” but is backing new trainer Lee to bring the best out of the 27-year-old.
Nelson told Sky Sports: “I’m quite sure Andy Lee has said to him ‘you’ve got an amazing talent, make sure you make the most of it’.
“So I think he has got a serious approach from what we’ve seen.
“The mental approach when you get into the ring – that makes or breaks a fighter, and I think for him, he knows he’s talented, sometimes you can run away with yourself. And that’s what he did.
“The performance that I saw in Saudi from Ben, he boxed as though… ‘it’s a done deal this, I’m going to steal the show’ and he neglected what he does so well.
“He neglected that, and in doing that he almost paid the price. That why he’s been humbled and that’s why mentally he’s got to stay on point so it doesn’t happen again, because if he gets through Sunday night and he starts getting some amazing wins again, what stops him from developing amnesia and doing this again at a higher level?
“So if this was to happen, it’s better that it happens now than later down the line when there’s a lot more at stake.”
Macklin: Whittaker can handle rematch pressure
Fellow Sky Sports expert, Matthew Macklin, believes Whittaker will handle the big expectations on his shoulders ahead of a high stakes rematch.
“I think there was an element of him underestimating [Cameron]. I think he possibly over-trained or got the weight a little bit wrong,” said Macklin.
“He got pretty tired pretty quickly, he was unravelling – which was alarming, really.
“I don’t think that would happen in this fight. I think he will have the right amount of fear, the right amount of nerves. The pressure will bring that.
“In a lot of ways his career is on the line in terms of what he projected himself to go on and achieve, to be a star.
“That is on the line right here.”

Today on Sky Sports Racing: Action from Newton Abbot and Wolverhampton live on Saturday | Racing News
There is competitive action across both codes on Saturday afternoon as Newton Abbot and Wolverhampton feature live on Sky Sports Racing…
4.19 Newton Abbot – Heltenham and Scarface headline in feature
Dan Skelton is involved in a terrific tussle for the Trainers’ Championship and Heltenham will hope to gain him some much-needed prize money in the Plymouth Motor Company Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot.
A five-time winner over fences, he has struggled for form this season but should appreciate this drop in class and is now two pounds below his last winning mark.
Scarface ran another solid race when second at Newbury and, with that form being franked at Cheltenham this week, he must be feared under Brendan Powell.
Royal Jewel has taken well to fences and looks best of the rest.
5.55 Wolverhampton – Red Sand and Jolly Roger contest strong novice
Ed Walker’s Red Sand built on his promising debut when landing a Goodwood maiden in May and makes his much-anticipated reappearance in the Race And Rest – Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Novice Stakes, with Tom Marquand a notable jockey booking.
Jolly Roger is another who stepped forward from his first start to score impressively at Kempton in December. That was a good performance from a wide draw, and he rates a big player here.
Warrior Mode justified market support to make a winning debut over course and distance last month despite showing signs of greenness and cannot be ruled out for Sir Mark Prescott and Luke Morris.
2.34 Newton Abbot – In-form Military Tycoon and Outside Adesa clash
Military Tycoon got off the mark over hurdles when seeing off Ivane at Fontwell last month and another bold bid can be expected in the Tribute Novices’ Limited Handicap Hurdle off a seven pound higher mark.
Outside Adesa landed a point at Charlton Horethorne on his last start and rates an interesting runner on debut for the Kayley Woollacott team.
El Bandido Pancho was a beaten favourite when second at Ffos Las and a similar effort would see him go close as he steps up in distance.
Best of the rest
3.09 Newton Abbot
Time To Bite bids to continue a fine run of form having racked up two wins on the bounce, at Taunton and Exeter, and he attempts to make it a hat-trick of wins in the south west in the Trojan Motor Company And Instant Justice Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot.
He scored over the course and distance a little under a year ago but will need to defy a three pound higher mark if he is to land the three-timer.
5.29 Newton Abbot – Coconut Twist seeks hat-trick
Coconut Twist has only been out of the first three once in his last eight starts and lines up in the St. Austell Brewery Handicap Hurdle having won his last two, most recently scuppering an in-form mare from landing a hat-trick of her own over this course and distance.
He arrives off a career-high mark, but you could not rule out another bold show from this progressive type if he can cope with the nine-day turnaround.
Randwick – Group One action
We have more Group One action from Randwick on Saturday morning with the Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes and Schweppes All Aged Stakes taking centre stage.
The Champagne Stakes was captured by top Godolphin colt Broadsiding last year, and this year features a handful of potential superstars, with likeable types Nepotism and State Visit looking like the two to beat.
Broadsiding runs on the card for the second year in a row and bids to follow up from his recent Rosehill Guineas success at 6.40am, and a drop back in trip should help see him in a much better light, but he faces some talented Group One performers who could cause him a problem or two.
RBC Heritage: Justin Thomas holds two-shot lead after second round with Tommy Fleetwood three back | Golf News
Justin Thomas followed his opening-round 61 with a two-under-par 69 to maintain the lead through 36 holes at the RBC Heritage, with England’s Tommy Fleetwood three shots off the lead.
Thomas’ steady round featured four birdies and two bogeys, pushing him to 12-under 130 for the event after he tied the Harbour Town Golf Links course record on Thursday. The two-time major champion is seeking his first victory of any kind since the 2022 PGA Championship.
Si Woo Kim of South Korea fired the round of the day, a seven-under 64, to leap into a share of second place at 10 under with Russell Henley (68).
Andrew Novak (65) and Fleetwood (66) are tied for fourth at nine under. Scottie Scheffler settled for a one-under 70, including all pars on the back nine, and is tied for sixth at eight under with Canadian Mackenzie Hughes (66).
“The majority of it has just been pressing and trying too hard,” Thomas said of his drought. “I almost feel like I’m kind of past the point where fortunately you all have stopped asked me – which is nice – but I would also prefer to get that over with.
“Something I feel like I did so well there for a couple of years is I just let tournaments come to me and I just trusted my ability.
“That’s really been my key this week is I’m just trying to really trust my game and commit to what I’m doing.”
Major winners Collin Morikawa (66), Brian Harman (69) and Wyndham Clark (70) are part of a five-way tie at seven under.
There is no 36-hole cut at the $20m signature event. Among those struggling near the back of the 72-man field are Max Homa (even par), Sahith Theegala (one over), Will Zalatoris (three over), Canada’s Adam Hadwin (four over) and Nick Dunlap (seven over).
Theegala was the runner-up to Scheffler at this tournament last year.

A late Abbas Miski try halted St Helens’ comeback in the second 40 after Wigan Warriors led 12-2 at the break; watch Rivals Round live on Sky Sports with Leigh vs Warrington (1.30pm) and Catalans vs Salford (6pm) on Saturday
Last Updated: 18/04/25 5:19pm

Wigan Warriors held off a second-half comeback from St Helens to wrap up a 24-14 victory in the Good Friday derby at The Brick Community Stadium.
Wigan had the lead at the break through a Harry Smith penalty, Jai Field converted try, plus Abbas Miski unconverted effort, Saints only replying with a George Whitby penalty conversion to give the home outfit a 12-2 lead at the break.
St Helens also had to survive being down to 12-men at the end of the first half and beginning of the second as Moses Mbye was sent to the sin-bin for a high shot on Zach Eckersley.
It was a similar story early in the second for Wigan though as Sam Walters was shown yellow for a high shot on Jon Bennison.
Although St Helens mounted a second-half comeback through converted tries from Lewis Murphy and Agnatius Paasi to bring the score to 18-14, an atrocious knock-on from Tristan Sailor allowed Miski to go over in the corner with just two minutes remaining, Smith obliging with the conversion to wrap up what is always a big derby win.
The victory for Wigan Warriors continues the trend of the home team winning the Good Friday derby which dates back to 2021.
Wigan’s win also moves them into second in the Super League table, two points behind leaders Hull KR.
Wigan show class to hold off Saints rally as visitors rue early errors
With a thumping atmosphere and both sets of fans loud and proud chanting from minute one, the stage was set for what is always a bruising derby between two old foes.
Defences were on top and there was no way through for either side’s attacking lines, meaning Smith called for the kicking tee on eight minutes after St Helens were pinged for offside, giving the hosts a narrow 2-0 lead.
From there though, St Helens had good territory and chances, Whitby converting their own penalty to level things up at 2-2.
Wigan’s Smith thought he had the first try of the clash when he went in under the sticks in the 26th minute but, after a check, it was clear Tyler Dupree had obstructed the St Helens defenders, so it was chalked off.
However, it was only two minutes later that the Warriors finally crossed the whitewash as Batchelor knocked on, French with the vision and execution to spot the run of Field and to kick the ball into space behind the St Helens defence.
Handling errors continued to cost Saints as Batchelor came up with his second that led to another try, the kick from Smith not being fielded by Saints and Miski going over in the corner.
St Helens were then put under the pump as Mbye was sent to the sin-bin for a high shot on Eckersley but they managed to grind out the final few moments, Wigan going in with a 12-2 lead at the break.
While the numbers on the field were then levelled as Walters was sent to the sin-bin for a high one on Saints winger Jon Bennison, St Helens were the architects of their own downfall as Paasi sent a needless offload that was collected by Wigan.
That allowed Field just a few tackles later to slice through following a delayed pass, Smith converting to put Wigan 18-2 up with over half an hour remaining.
Momentum then continued to swing between the two sides but all Wigan had to do was wait for one of St Helens’ experienced players to make a mistake which put the pressure back on themselves, opportunities coming and going for Paul Wellens’ side.
Despite their handling woes, St Helens continued to battle and finally got across the whitewash in the 64th minute as a superb mis-pass out wide found Murphy who produced a sensational diving score in the corner, Whitby slotting over a tough conversion to bring the score to 18-8, the try changing the outlook of the whole game.
Paasi then gave St Helens fans even more hope as he powered over from short range with seven minutes left on the clock, Whitby converting to make it a four-point game, the visitors feeling they were very much in it.
However, their hopes came crashing down with two minutes to go as Sailor came up with a costly knock-on that was picked up by Eckersley and sent on to Miski to go over in the corner, Smith putting the icing on the cake with the extras for a solid 24-14 victory.
