Fitbit 4.66 rolls out water, food, & mood logging, free access

Fitbit is rolling out version 4.66 of the Android app with all the new Public Preview features announced earlier this week.

Update 4/7: Version 4.66.1 of Fitbit for Android is now widely rolling out via the Play Store with the new logging features.

Free users can also now access the Public Preview.  The “Ask Coach” FAB (floating action button) becomes “Log” with immediate access to the “Log data” bottom sheet that is quite nice.

Original 4/3: When you tap the “Ask Coach” FAB (floating action button) in the bottom-right corner and then “Log” in the prompt box, you have two new options.

“Hydration” is similar to the stable experience, while “Food” has been simplified down to search. Google’s support article says there should be a Barcode reader like before, but we’re not seeing it just yet:

To add food by scanning a barcode:

  1. From the Today tab, tap + > Log > Food.
  2. Tap Barcode and scan your item’s barcode. If the item is in the database, you’ll get a summary of its nutrition facts. If not, you can choose to submit it to the database.
  3. Adjust the quantity > Save.

In the Health tab, scrolling down to Focus areas reveals a new “Nutrition” section. You have stats pages for Energy burned, Hydration, Calorie target, Calories intake, Fat, Carbs, and Protein.

Back on the grid, there’s also “Mental wellbeing” where you’ll find Mindfulness and Body responses. Fitbit says “Data logged in the standard version of the app may be delayed in showing up in Preview.”

Meanwhile, Fitbit’s “Stress management score” is now a metric called “Resilience.” Your Resilience can be Low, Balanced, or Optimal.

You can now better understand your body’s response to stress with Body Responses and an updated stress management score.

Cycle health can also be found in Focus areas to log your period, with Fitbit Premium users getting access to personalized cycle insights from the Coach.

Fitbit 4.66 is still rolling out via the Play Store and not yet widely available. The version is fully launched on iOS, though we’re seeing preview bugs with accessing the “Log data” sheet.

Free users that install this update can also now sign up for the Public Preview. There should be a prompt after updating or you can join from the account menu. This will enable the redesigned app, but not the new AI-powered Coach.
