Lowell man charged in connection with high-speed chase from Bedford to Chelmsford

A Lowell man was charged in connection with leading Bedford police on a high-speed chase on Thursday, the Bedford Police Department said Tuesday.

Jaeden Tucker, 19, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property, a passing violation, a marked lanes violation, failure to stop, speeding, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage and failure to stop for police.

Tucker was arraigned in Concord District Court, Bedford police said in a statement.

At around 2:51 p.m. on July 24, Bedford police went to Brookline Bank at 168 Great Road about a report of a person trying to cash a check with a fraudulent identification, police said.

Officers arrived to find a man in a pink shirt and gray pants walking into a 2019 Infiniti G37, the statement read. Police turned on their lights and sirens to stop the man, Tucker, from driving off. But he drove off and ran a red light on the wrong side of the road when he left the Great Road Plaza.

Tucker struck another car but continued driving at high speeds toward Pine Street, police said. Officers followed Tucker until his car crossed the Lexington town line. They stopped his car near the entrance to Hanscom Air Force Base and approached the Infiniti, telling Tucker and a man in the passenger seat to get out.

The car then moved forward and almost hit an officer as it drove off, and the pursuit continued, police said.

Due to safety concerns, Bedford police called off the pursuit and requested help from Massachusetts State Police, the statement read.

At around 4 p.m., Chelmsford police told Bedford’s officers that the Infiniti was found in a Walmart parking lot in Drum Hill, police said. Tucker was seen trying to change his clothes in the store before police arrived and arrested him.

Tucker and the passenger, who police did not name, were arrested by Chelmsford police, the statement read. Tucker was booked at the Bedford Police Station, while the passenger was booked at the Chelmsford Police Station.

Tucker and the passenger face one charge from Chelmsford police of shoplifting, police said.
