A Maine man is facing charges including operating under the influence after crashing his truck twice in Massachusetts early Thursday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Carthage resident Andrew Beaulieu, 30, pleaded not guilty to operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and drug possession during his arraignment in Fall River District Court later that day, according to court records. He was released on personal recognizance bail.
State Police alerted other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a Ford F-350 with Maine license plates around 4 a.m. after it crashed into a rest area complex on Route 24 south in Bridgewater, State Police said in an email.
The front doors of a Dunkin’ and a Burger King at the rest stop were damaged in the crash, WCVB reported. A Burger King employee who witnessed the crash told the news station it shook the entire building, and that the driver took off quickly afterwards.
About an hour later, Westport police responded to a single-car crash on Forge Road involving the same truck, State Police said. Troopers responded to the second crash scene and identified Beaulieu as the driver. They soon determined that he was showing signs of impairment and arrested him.
No further information has been released.
