A New York police officer was injured Thursday morning during the arrest of a Massachusetts man wanted on a warrant.
The arrest involved the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in Syracuse, New York, at an apartment on Lodi Street, according to Sgt. Jack Keller of New York State Police.
Law enforcement were attempting to arrest Cedric Cundiff, 67, who is wanted in Massachusetts on a charge of robbery in the first degree in connection with an armed robbery of a store, police said.
As police tried to take Cundiff into custody around 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, he barricaded himself inside a bedroom, police said.
A state police officer behind a protective shield was trying to enter the room when Cundiff struck and slashed the officer’s hand with a knife, police said
Cundiff was then tasered and taken into custody without further incident, police said.
The injured officer was brought to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he was treated for several cuts to his hand and a fractured finger, police said.
Cundiff is expected to face additional charges in connection with the knife incident, police said.
