Medford firefighter accused of sending explicit photos to teenage girl

A Medford firefighter has been accused of sending inappropriate messages and photos to a person he believed was a 15-year-old girl.

Hugh McEleney, 63, of Medford, was arrested Monday and charged with disseminating matter harmful to minors, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

His arrest follows a federal child exploitation investigation, prosecutors said. Medford police were notified earlier this month that McEleney had been identified as a suspect by federal investigators.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Somerville District Court.

The Medford Fire Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Medford police and the district attorney’s office.
