Red Sox clubhouse seemingly not dwelling on Rafael Devers trade

It appears the Red Sox clubhouse is leaving the past in the past.

After Boston stunningly traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, many players admitted they were shocked, but knew they needed to have the “next man up” mentality because Devers was just one player out of 26.

During his weekly appearance on WEEI, manager Alex Cora was asked whether he was surprised how quickly his team moved on from the Devers trade.

“The less you talk about the subject, the better it is for the clubhouse, for the team,” Cora said. “We love Raffy, he’s a great guy, he’s a great player. We’re gonna miss him. But it’s a decision we made as an organization. The players, they’ve got a job to do, and it’s to go out there and play baseball.”

While Devers leaves a big hole in the lineup, a bigger focus for the Red Sox should be on getting back into the win column and eliminate the errors in games — whether that’s base running or not knowing where to throw the ball on a play.

The Red Sox are fourth in the American League East, 3½ games behind the third-place Toronto Blue Jays and four behind the second-place Tampa Bay Rays. They’ve been in and out of a Wild Card spot, but are now 1½ games back of the third and final one after Monday’s loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Boston can snap its three-game losing streak on Tuesday as its series with the Angels continues.
