Robot vacuums can claim a ‘hands-free’ experience and still require human interference when they get stuck, bind with hair, or need deeper cleaning because the water wasn’t hot enough. That isn’t the case for Roborock’s Saros 20.
The Saros 20 is the culmination of engineering advancements made by Roborock to develop a robot vacuum that can tackle any home environment with ease. The vacuum makes some incredible improvements to the company’s flagship lineup and brings some subtle changes that go a long way.
It all starts with the new environment sensing array. Roborock has equipped the Saros 20 with “StarSight Autonomous System 2.0” for faster mapping and obstacle recognition. Using dual-transmitter solid-state LiDAR, the Saros 20 vac can read rooms at a rate 21 times higher than traditional LDS sensors. In essence, it creates a precise 3D map of the home, noting furniture and obstacles as small as 3cm wide/tall.
The new sensor array and smaller profile allow the 3.13-inch robot cleaner to slip into hard-to-reach areas previously a nightmare to clean. And since there’s no LDS sensor slapped on top, the vacuum can clear limiting spaces and still get an accurate reading to avoid wires and anything else hiding underneath.
Under the robot is a new lift system that changes everything from the height of the wheels to the entire chassis. The AdaptLift Chassis 3.0 is designed to overcome tall thresholds with a new set of small, auxiliary wheels that pop out to lift the robot over raised floors nearly 2 inches tall. The Saros 20 can even climb small sets of stairs, as long as the layers are shorter than 1.77 inches and then 1.69 inches, consecutively.
If it does find itself stuck on wires or other obstacles, Roborock’s Saros 20 can get back on track without help from anyone. The new lift system allows the bot to change individual or combined wheel height to get itself unstuck. That’s a massive upgrade over vacuums that find themselves trapped on cables and dog toys frequently.
And with Roborock’s AI integrated, the Saros 20 acts as one of the few vacuums equipped to clean carpets autonomously. Those new height-chaging wheels let the bot find the perfect elevation to clean carpets without getting stuck. There are 8 height settings, chosen automatically with the “Adaptive Lift” mode.
As for capability, the Saros 20 can handle it’s own just fine. Adaptive stain and dirt recognition put the 36,000Pa motor and 200RPM mop pads to work. That, in combination with tight coverage and a tangle-free roller means the bot can make quick work of any mess with ease. SmartPlan 3.0 powers the decision-making, and allows users to let the vacuum adjust its cleaning habits based on human habits.
When it’s all said and done, the Saros 20’s docking station keeps the vacuum fresh for the next run. One of the cooler quieter features is hidden in the new station. When the robot is vacuuming and not mopping, the station will reatin the mop pads so they don’t get carpets wet. That’s one less thing to mess with on a daily basis.
The dock also gets water up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit, obliterating dirst and grease from the previous mopping job.
