Sennheiser pokes fun at Nothing’s new square headphones

Nothing’s new headphones are polarizing, even among manufacturers. Sennheiser poked fun at a leaked image of Nothing’s new very square and very unique headphones, saying it would likely never release something similar.

The Nothing Headphone (1) is the brand’s latest entry into over-ear audio. The design is unique, to say the least, though it fits rather nicely into the brand’s aesthetic between its phones and other audio devices. The headphone shell carries a cassette-like design with a translucent covering, much like the transparent panels on the company’s phones.

The leaked images eventually made their way to Reddit, where the polarizing views come to life. Some say they hate it, others say it looks original, and they look forward to hearing them.

Sennheiser, however, also had a say. The brand’s official Reddit account posted a comment poking fun at the design, stating that the brand would never venture so far as to create something like that, without some serious changes.

The only way we’d make a design like that is if we were bought out again and had the best salespeople. Even then..

As funny as the comment is, there’s quite a bit of truth to it. Nothing is able to design and release something like this at a reasonable price thanks to clever marketing and brand loyalty. Even with that, a lot of users seem to think the headphones look pretty bad, and they note that they have plenty of Nothing devices.

Sennheiser, on the other hand, has a rigid foundation in producing headphones of the highest quality, in terms of build quality, but mostly in terms of sound. Among that subreddit, the Sennheiser HD series is often touted as the holy grail of headphones for its superb sound and price point.

The Nothing Headphone (1) can look the part, but sound quality is going to play a major factor. There is a chance the Nothing Headphone (1) ends up as an accessory more than the go-to audio choice. On the other hand, not a whole lot is expected of Bluetooth headphones, though it seems these come with a 3.5mm tie-in.

Nothing is expected to launch the Nothing Headphone (1) during the company’s July 1 event, alongside the brand’s next flagship phone.
