Testimony in the Brian Walshe murder trial enters its 6th day on Monday.
A medical examiner who examined items found in a trash bag pulled from a dumpster near Walshe’s mother’s apartment in Swampscott is expected to continue his testimony under direct examination Monday.
Judge Diane Freniere told jurors the trial was slightly ahead of schedule, with two more full weeks of testimony expected. The case is “moving quite efficiently,” she told the panel on Friday afternoon.
During the first week of the case, jurors heard testimony about Walshe’s grisly internet searches, from the man his wife, Ana, was having an affair with and from the lead investigator into her disappearance.
Walshe, 50, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife. Prosecutors say he killed her inside the Cohasset home they shared with their three children on New Year’s Day 2023, then dismembered her body in the home’s basement.
Before the trial started, Walshe pleaded guilty to two charges, admitting that he moved his wife’s body and misled the police investigation into her disappearance.
During opening statements this week, his defense claimed Ana Walshe died a sudden, unexplained death.
